- MacKinnon penned “The 56” on the 56 who risked all to sign the Declaration of Independence. In the book, MacKinnon honors those 56 men and the story behind the 4th of July.

Judeo-Christian Principles
The creation of the Declaration of Independence and the design of our Constitutional Republic was influenced by Judeo-Christian principles – the most obvious being the aim to continually work towards “a more perfect Union.” This can be achieved through a secular and non-secular approach to improvement. From a Biblical perspective, only God is perfect and Jesus is the standard of perfection. Man is imperfect but expected to improve. Faith and a belief in Christ lead to eternal life.
Among the challenges are that similar to the Constitution, the Bible is being considered a “living document” that is being interpreted to adjust to the current times as opposed to the fidelity of its “original” intent.

- But first, note that although Scripture was not quoted in the Declaration, perhaps the Founders were motivated by the words of Jesus:
- “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
- The writings of St. Paul: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).
- “In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence” (Ephesians 3:12).
- And the apostle Peter: “Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves” (1 Peter 2:16).
- The Founders’ belief that the “Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them” to declare independence from the motherland sets the stage for a revolutionary governing concept that separated the new nation from any nation in history: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

- As we look at our nation today, we see that we’re going in the wrong direction. We might be tempted to say, “Well, that’s it! There’s nothing we can do.”
- But I think there are things we can do. I also think there are things we should not do. For example, we shouldn’t try to escape the culture altogether, and we shouldn’t engage in isolation. (That’s virtually impossible.) God has not called us to isolate; he has called us to infiltrate. He has called us to permeate and saturate our culture with the truth of the Gospel, to go into all the world and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.
Biblical Worldview – Quality of Life. For the purposes of the research, a biblical worldview was defined as believing that absolute moral truths exist; that such truth is defined by the Bible; and firm belief in six specific religious views.
